Admirals Play Unique, 10-Inning Exhibition Game
By John Glidden

Professional baseball returned to Vallejo, Monday, as the Vallejo Admirals hosted the San Rafael Pacifics in an exhibition game pre-determined to go 10 innings at Wilson Park.

The Admirals began the game stealing everything in sight.

After the top of the ninth, the Admirals lead the Pacifics 5-3, after recording what would have normally been the game’s final out.

However, in the top half of the tenth, Admirals’ pitcher D.J. Gunderson allowed a three run homerun to Troy Zawadzki, to give the Pacifics a 6-5 lead. They tacked on another run before the inning ended.

I can’t tell you how psyched we are here at Ozcat Radio for another season of Admirals baseball. What a hoot!

Ozcat’s WordPress Blog Basics https://vallejo.ozcatradio.com/?p=233 https://vallejo.ozcatradio.com/?p=233#respond Wed, 31 Jul 2013 04:15:03 +0000 http://vallejo.ozcatradio.com/?p=233 Once you are registered, Ozcats are bumped to Author status and allowed to post. (As distinct from replying to posts, which anyone who registers can do.)  This allows you to post in the topic categories: DJ Stuff, Music Matters, The Admirals, Vallejo, and any other topical issues we choose to add.  Only the Vallejo category posts to the OzBlog page.

If you want to create a post like mine for Whirled Hits on the Home page, it can be recycled week to week, or you can post a new one every week.  Here’s the basics:

As authors, you can add a post by clicking + New on the black Ribbon Bar at the top of the window (it appears once you are logged in). You can also access the Dashboard by clicking The Ozcat …Connection on the ribbon bar.  It will look like this:

The WordPress Dashboard, Author View

If you click on Posts to the left, it will open the All Posts window; if you want to add a new post you can select Add New below Posts in the left-hand drop-down menu, the same as using + New above.  Below is the Add Post window (click it to enlarge and read):

Adding a Post

Once you Publish your post, you can recycle it next week by going to the Dashboard, then Posts, All Posts, and selecting Quick Edit as below:

Quick Edit

From there you can change the date and time, change categories and the like:

Quick Edit Options

Choosing Edit rather than Quick Edit opens it in the editor you saw in the Add Post window.

Let’s keep show posts to a minimum on the front page here. We have a blog that is set up for the individual DJs (though not all the current crop) and once the issues with it are fixed, that’s where every show can have a place to post without restrictions.

The Admirals, Vallejo’s Baseball Team! https://vallejo.ozcatradio.com/?p=220 https://vallejo.ozcatradio.com/?p=220#respond Mon, 29 Jul 2013 19:32:49 +0000 http://vallejo.ozcatradio.com/?p=220 Vallejo Admirals WebsiteOK, it’s a fact:  The Ozcats have pretty much been baseball junkies for the past few weeks.  If you haven’t had the pleasure, treat yourself and turn up for one of the home games at Wilson Field.  What a pleasant way to while away a California evening (or afternoon).  For five bucks, (eight if you want to sit behind the plate) it’s hard to beat the entertainment value anywhere in town; certainly any sports venue.

Check their site for schedules etc. by clicking their logo above.

Chat Rooms https://vallejo.ozcatradio.com/?p=129 https://vallejo.ozcatradio.com/?p=129#comments Fri, 12 Jul 2013 18:01:20 +0000 http://vallejo.ozcatradio.com/?p=129 We’ve added a chat room  to replace the inadequate uStream chat and the buggy Stickam chat. You can chat without registering.  You can even choose a display name, but if you register you get to keep your registered name and it’s highlighted in the chat. Use the Let’s Talk, Vallejo menu item above. The player just above the chat lets you play our audio stream while you gab.
(The Ozcat Lounge is the same, but for inter-station communication.)

Every user in WordPress has a changeable role… https://vallejo.ozcatradio.com/?p=100 https://vallejo.ozcatradio.com/?p=100#comments Thu, 11 Jul 2013 02:49:48 +0000 http://vallejo.ozcatradio.com/?p=100 Every user in WordPress has a changeable role. Subscriber, which you get just for registering, lets you comment only. Contributor, the next role up lets you post a new topic, but waits for review… not useful for us. So DJs get Author status, so you can start a new topic. The idea is not to litter the place with hundreds of topics, but for now simply to open one post for your show, which you can mention on the air for requests, contact or whatever. See my example below.

We can also create categories for topics, like DJ Stuff and Music Matters in the sidebar.  When you post, pick a category.  Those two won’t display on the front page, but Uncategorized and Vallejo (the default category) will.

Anyone can comment on any post once its on the site, so conversations can continue for a while, but don’t create a new post on the front page (see the ribbon bar above when you’re logged in) unless you’re on the air and planning to use it. We can also put topic pages (which also allow replies) on the sidebar to the right to cover current hot issues.

Oh, you’ll notice as an author you can add media. [There’s a glitch in the upload folder, so not for now.]  Use it to add an image to your post if you want. Videos would have to be stored on our server, and they’re too big, so don’t use them.  Still working on embedding MP3s, YouTube and the like.  Most of the solutions are a bit buggy.

Ozcat DJs, Sign In, Please https://vallejo.ozcatradio.com/?p=71 https://vallejo.ozcatradio.com/?p=71#comments Wed, 10 Jul 2013 17:10:05 +0000 http://vallejo.ozcatradio.com/?p=71 We have this and other blogs that I set up for our use, so lets use this one to communicate (with ourselves, and ultimately the community.)  This entry is simply to provide an easy way to get all of us registered.  Just Login to leave a Comment above and you’ll be asked to register. (Easy, email and confirmation email)  As soon as you do that you’ll be able to comment, and I’ll bump all on-air DJs’ status up when I see the registrations come in so you can start a thread for your show.

BTW, this chat on this page only accepts comments from registered user bumped up to Author status—DJs mostly—so we can talk among ourselves.  We’ll ultimately password it.

Hello Vallejo! https://vallejo.ozcatradio.com/?p=1 https://vallejo.ozcatradio.com/?p=1#respond Tue, 30 Apr 2013 01:42:26 +0000 http://vallejo.ozcatradio.com/?p=1

Welcome to Ozcat Radio’s Vallejo-based chat blog. Feel free to join and join in. In order to keep down the spammers and scammers, this blog is usually moderated, but we’re trying to slip past the bad guys by opening it up to listener registration for a few hours whenever we announce it on the air. If you give us your email address (which we won’t abuse) you’ll be registered and able to comment any time.

This theme is designed for speed and to be entirely keystroke-driven for ease of cell use.  Don’t be afraid of the Keyboard Shortcuts link above.  There are only a few and they’re well worth learning.  Like “L” to login and “R” to reply to a post.  Have Fun!

Oh, and this shouldn’t require saying, but does: be civil. Act like the trolls on the Times-Herald blog and you’ll be banned.

Ozcat Radio Is Officially 89.5 FM https://vallejo.ozcatradio.com/?p=10 https://vallejo.ozcatradio.com/?p=10#respond Sun, 29 Nov 2009 18:47:15 +0000 http://vallejo.ozcatradio.com/?p=10 We’re still caught between celebratory cheers and shell-shock here.  Mostly cheers though.  After a 3 1/2 year struggle, the FCC has granted Ozcat Radio a license for KZCT-FM, at 89.5 FM.  This is huge!  It’s the first new frequency in the Bay area in forever, and the entire Ozcat staff has thrown thousands of volunteer hours into getting us here.  Kudos and thanks to all.

Now begins the work, (and FUN!) as we finally get to promote this station.  We’ve been hoping and planning for this for a while, so when people ask what we’re going to do with it, well, anyone who has caught the station over the past few years knows pretty much what we’re going to do with it.  We’ve been doing it already.  Now we get to do it for real, on the air, and we have 3+ years worth of ideas just screaming to be uncorked.  It’s our intention to make this a true community radio station for Vallejo.  You’re invited to join in and help.  We’ll work out how you can do that, but for now, we’re putting some of our plans into action, like this blog.  Enjoy it!
